Split in half by a rocky point and tucked below two Kauai resorts at the top of Princeville, Hideaways Beach offers a secluded escape for our Kauai vacation rental guests with its golden stretch of sand and views of Bali Hai. There are reefs for Kauai snorkeling when the surf is calm and plenty of shade trees to relax under for an enjoyable day.
When it comes to Kauai beaches, this one feels hidden away from everything. With limited parking available at the trail-head and a steep climb down, the beach offers a tropical paradise for those who visit. Our post today will give you insider tips for enjoying Hideaways Beach at Princeville Resort on your next Kauai vacation.
Also known as Pali Ke Kua, guests who stay at our Princeville condos by the same name have the easiest approach. A paved trail at Pali Ke Kua Resort, between buildings one and two, leads to the right side of Hideaways Beach. Before you reach the sand there is a picnic table and barbecue. Another side trail on the way down leads over rocks which are safe in summer but not during winter. Be sure to bring your camera to capture the scenic views including those of the clear turquoise waters.
For everyone else, the public access route can be found next to the tennis courts at the Kauai condo resort of Pu`u Poa. This dirt trail has steps and there are metal and rope railings to guide you. The trail is steep and narrow with endless rewards waiting for you at the end.
Tip: If you want to explore both sides of Hideaways Beach from the Pu`u Poa trail, experienced swimmers can go around the point to the right during gentle ocean conditions.
Remember to Bring: Water, sunscreen, camera and food. Wear closed toe shoes for the hike down and bring a good book to read.
Cautions: No lifeguard on duty or restrooms. Check ocean conditions carefully especially in winter. Hideaways Beach is not the same as Pu`u Poa Beach which is nearby and fronts the St. Regis.
Directions: Both trails lead from Kauai resorts near the St. Regis. If you are not a guest at Pali Ke Kua or Pu`u Poa, parking is more easily available early in the day or for Kauai sunset.
