We wanted a special place to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary with our children and grandchildren near the place where we honeymooned. We wanted a place that could accommodate 6 adults and 3 children ages 5, 6 and 10, without too much worry over concern for child safety. This was a private oasis that enable the kids to explore and satisfy their activity levels without any complaints about the restrictions we gave them. The pool, of course, was where they wanted to be most of the time. The fact that the covered lanai and location of the pool was not totally in the sun all day was a bonus. We could explore the small beach at low tide right next to the property and walk to the beach just to the south - which was pretty rocky for small kids. Watching the surfers and turtles right off our bulkhead was daily entertainment. We had great day-trips to Hanapepe, Lydgate State Park, Salt Ponds and Poipu and we took in the Luau Kalamaku which had the kids totally enthralled the whole night as soon as the singing and storytelling began. We ate in every single night but our last - that's how nice and well-equipped the kitchen, dining and BBQ areas were. The location is also good for last minute items you might need at a grocery or drug store. We might have to make this an annual tradition, it was so fun, relaxing and accommodating.
Mahalo for choosing our home to celebrate such a meaningful milestone—your 50th wedding anniversary. It’s truly special to hear that your family was able to gather, relax, and create lasting memories in a place connected to your 50th Anniversary. We’re delighted that the home comfortably accommodated your group and that both the privacy and layout helped everyone—from the kids to the adults—feel at ease. It’s great to hear the family enjoyed all Kauai has to offer and loved the pool at the home. We’re happy that the kitchen and outdoor spaces made dining in such an enjoyable part of your stay. That’s exactly the kind of experience we hope to provide. It would be an absolute pleasure to host you again—making this an annual tradition sounds like a wonderful idea. Mahalo for your thoughtful review and for sharing your experience with us.

Location is fabulous, house is beautiful
Mahalo for your review. We’re thrilled you enjoyed the location and loved the house. It was a pleasure hosting you, and we’d be happy to welcome you back anytime.

First, the house is mostly stunning. Unbeatable views from which we saw several whales. The pool is a good size for kids to play (no shallow end, FYI), and the outdoor dining table is different and bigger than the one pictured - you can seat 8 comfortably and 10 without difficulty. The kitchen is incredibly well stocked with every device, tool, and storage solution you could ask for. The cooktop controls have faded almost completely away, making it a bit of a guessing game to figure out. The multi-sized zone is nearly impossible to use.The three en-suite bathrooms are nice and spacious. The fourth bathroom in the hallway is not in great shape - broken window slats, a window at the far end that looks right out to the outdoor shower (we covered it with a bedsheet), small counterspace, a sticky/loud door. The TV room is very small, seating five people or maybe six with kids. There are AC units in the bedrooms that work well, but none in the living spaces and kitchen, so it can get quite warm in the afternoon and evening. Nearly the entire length of the house front and back has sliding doors that open (with screens) to let a breeze come through. Still, some days were uncomfortably warm late in the day.The location was great. A great snorkeling beach right down the road (Lawai Beach), a nice walk to Spouting Horn, a quick drive or walk to the Shops at Kukuilu.Overall, this was a magnificent house, but I give it 4 stars because, for the extreme price, it should be perfect.
Thank you for sharing your feedback. We’re glad to hear you enjoyed the views, pool, location, and well-stocked kitchen. We’re sorry that the TV room felt small and that the cooktop controls appeared faded. We’ve shared this feedback with our team so these items can be addressed. We also wish you had let us know about your concerns regarding the fourth bathroom during your stay, as our maintenance team would have been happy to assist at that time. For future visits, we recommend selecting a home with air conditioning throughout, as this property offers AC in the bedrooms only. Regarding pricing, homes with these views and amenities are among the most sought-after on the island, particularly during the Christmas holiday period. Rates reflect the location, amenities, and unique features of the home. Mahalo for your comments. We appreciate your feedback and hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back for an even better stay next time.

This property is high end but you get what you pay for. I only book with Parrish when I come to Kauai. Exquisite properties that may seem costly but deliver the quality in an efficient and friendly way. No unwanted surprises and a culture designed to enhance yours stay on this most beautiful of the Hawaiian Islands.

by Dana F.We cooked dinner at home every night. The house is so beautiful at night, because it is lit so well. We played games during the day, and hung out by the pool. We went to the closest shopping center and got food to cook, and everyone was so nice and accommodating. Wonderful house. Wonderful location.
Mahalo Dana for your review, We’re glad to hear you enjoyed the home and had a wonderful stay. We hope to welcome you back in the future. Aloha.

It was a beautiful location and home. Management was slow to return messages. Only one roll of paper towels for the whole house. The lower bedroom had bugs in the bed and was not useable in our mind even though bedding was changed. The groundskeeper spent essentially the whole day on Saturday cutting grass and weed whacking property which diminished enjoyment of property, especially on our first day wanting to rest and recover from long travel. Couldn’t really enjoy the pool or house with the noise going on for hours! But location, view, etc was unparalleled. We very much enjoyed our stay there, and we were especially glad to have the pool. Felt overpriced especially given the above issues. We throughly enjoyed our time there and would recommend. Above comments are meant to be helpful for you going forward.
Aloha Linda and Mahalo for your review and feedback. We are glad that you enjoyed the home and the location. We typically leave 1 roll of paper towels on the counters and another under the sink, which is usually enough for a week's stay. We are always happy to deliver more if you request it. While there were some ants in the bed as you noted, we want to emphasize that there were no bedbugs at home. We offered to replace all the bedding and sanitize the room and bed, which you agreed would be satisfactory. We are sorry if the landscaping disrupted your afternoon. This general scheduled maintenance needs to happen weekly to keep the property in great shape. We appreciate your feedback and look forward to hosting you again soon.
One of a Kind
by Stew & JessWhat an incredible property and home! As shared by other reviews, even these beautiful pictures do not do this home justice. The interior of the home is open and has many windows and sliding glass doors which makes it feel like there is almost no transition from inside to out. The views, most especially from the back patio/pool area can’t be beat. There is a small patio right at the water’s edge which is perfect for breakfast every morning. Unbeknownst to us there are many parakeets that stop on the palm trees on the property every evening and take off each morning making for an incredibly unique experience especially for nature and wildlife lovers. The home is conveniently located to so many of the island’s sites and great restaurants. Every day was a dream. Another great aspect of the home were the small pictures and explanatory notes about the history of the home which added such a great touch! We cannot wait to return again!
Mahalo Stew & Jess, we look forward to hosting you again soon.
Perfection in Paradise
by Heidi NeesonEvery exquisite detail from art to landscape, this spot can not be outdone. This home is Immaculate, Accommodating and a great location with a private beach where the waves soothe you all day and into the evening. Ideal for sunsets, surfing, spotting sea turtles, along with a beautiful pool for lounging and swimming. Wonderful amenities for cooking or entertaining, with great restaurants close by as well. Golf, hiking, catamaran sight seeing trips, snorkeling, diving, all very close by. A Sound system with piped in music for indoor/outdoor enjoyment was just an added bonus to put the shave ice topping on the trip of a life time!!! This is a very highly recommended place in a very relaxing, decompressing atmosphere.
Mahalo Heidi for the five-star review, comments and recommendation. We look forward to hosting you again.

Loved this beautiful house! Pool was fantastic! Views were beyond incredible. The house is even better than the pictures. There are atriums throughout the house so you feel the outdoors is inside. I was initially worried about no air conditioning in the living areas, but the open air and breeze is better.. I think over 10 sliding glass doors. It felt like a luxurious hotel but you had it all to yourself! Perfect the bedrooms had air conditioning at night. Thoughtful touches like the pitcher of mai tai and gift basket of treats when we arrived were greatly appreciated. Wish I was back there already!
Shangri-la
by Jeffrey NortonThis place is just stunning -- better in person than the pictures. But it is also completely casual and easy to relax in. There was a place for everything -- the soccer fanatics (it was World Cup time) had a place to watch without disrupting the tropical ambiance and everyone loved eating out by the pool and watching the sunset. Not pictured there is also a large side yard covered in grass. We had games of lawn bowling there. It was just too short.
Parakeets in Paradise
by Jerry MarcykThe Sunset Makai Hale is like a dream Hawaiian beach home situated on lush grounds on a rocky outcropping directly on the ocean. People will book a month in advance at the nearby Beach House restaurant just to have the same sunset view that you will have every night here. We had 8 adults and a two-year-old spend 13 nights here and we were all reluctant to leave. The house is as beautiful as you see in the photographs and there were no negative surprises. The kitchen is remarkably well furnished for a rental including a food processor, blender, an air fryer, hand mixer, kitchen gadgets, and multiple sets of glasses, cups, and dishes. We really appreciated the dedicated 'beer fridge', ice drawer, and the two dishwashers. Our grandson enjoyed the small and protected "keiki cove" beach located next door. Flocks of large parakeets roost on this section of shoreline every sunset. We all enjoyed watching the hundreds of bird swooping, squawking, and jockeying for position on palm trees while drinking a cocktail on the deck. The birds, however, will poop on your car overnight. Fortunately, there is garden hose in front for washing it off. One caveat: Kauai is in the tropics so you can expect some 'unwanted visitors' to sneak into the house. Ours included a spider, centipedes, geckos, large cockroaches, and a mouse. It's all part of the price of living surrounded by lush island greenery, so don't get freaked out and just deal with them. We would definitely rent from Parrish again.

Gorgeous place to stay. Whether to primarily stay in or place to hang your hat, this is a perfect location to enjoy the breathtaking views, especially at sunset. The home is very well equipped, beds are comfortable, and if you’re planning to travel with family and/or friends, a lovely setup to encourage positive conversation and bonding. Beautifully designed outdoor seating, and excellent kitchen/dining room. Staff are accessible, knowledgeable, and friendly which made our travel even more effortless. Already looking forward to our next visit.
Mahalo Hayley. It was a pleasure hosting you and we look forward to seeing you again soon. A hui hou.
