If you are planning a vacation to Kauai, chances are that you will take in the magnificence of at least one of the island’s spectacular waterfalls. Kauai is home to many waterfalls, and while they offer mesmerizing views and tranquil sounds, many visitors are interested in soaking in the experience, literally. Swimming in Kauai’s waterfalls is a memorable experience and will undoubtedly be one of the highlights of your vacation. However, some waterfalls are suitable for swimming while others are not.
The team at Parrish Kauai is here to ensure you have an exciting and safe waterfall swimming experience. We have compiled a list of the best waterfalls on Kauai for swimming near our vacation rentals.
Wailua Falls
Start your waterfall adventure with the breathtaking Wailua Falls, often called the “twin falls.” Located near the Wailua River, this 173-foot waterfall is easily accessible. Take a dip in the pool beneath it and feel the rush of fresh mountain water against your skin. The views are equally fantastic; you might recognize this waterfall for its appearance in the opening credits of the television show Fantasy Island.
Hanakapiai Falls
The Hanakapiai Falls hike along the famous Na Pali Coast is a must for those with adventurous spirits. This eight-mile hike can be strenuous, but the payoff is well worth it. Hanakapiai Falls is a 300-foot waterfall, and its inviting pool at the base is perfect for a refreshing swim.
Waipoo Falls
Located in Waimea Canyon, Waipoo Falls is a stunning 700-foot waterfall. While you cannot go swimming at the base of these falls, there are two smaller waterfalls on the Kokee Stream with swimming holes that you can get to via the Canyon Trail. With two swimmable waterfalls and the majestic Waipoo Falls, this moderately challenging hike is well worth the trek.
Uluwehi Falls (Secret Falls)
Accessible only by kayak or paddleboard along the Wailua River, Uluwehi Falls, also known as Secret Falls, is a true hidden gem. Once you paddle to the trailhead, a scenic hike leads you to this secluded oasis. Here, you can enjoy a serene swim in a natural pool. Since Uluwhi Falls is only accessible by paddling, it is typically on the quieter side, providing you with one of Kauai’s most tranquil swimming experiences.
Kalihiwai Falls
For our guests staying on Kauai’s North Shore, Kalihiwai Falls is a lesser-visited but nonetheless beautiful waterfall. A short hike or horseback ride through a tropical forest leads to the pool beneath the falls; there are some companies that offer guided tours to Kalihiwai Falls, so if you prefer to explore with a guide, there are options available.
