This Kauai hike will be another two miles after reaching Hanakapiai Beach. If you have enough energy left by then and the Kauai weather outlook is good, this can be an exhilarating finish to your day. Hanakapiai Falls cascades 300 feet inside a natural amphitheater. Its beauty makes this demanding trail worth the time and effort on your Kauai vacation.
Kauai Hiking Tips at Hanakapiai Falls.
Trail Conditions: There are three major stream crossings and an 800 foot elevation change. You’ll hike over rocks too. At the second stream crossing there is a view of the falls. At this point make the choice to continue or turn around. From here the trail becomes more strenuous and steep.
Look for: Mango trees, crumbling stone walled enclosures of ancient taro patches and even coffee shrubs from a 19th century plantation.
What to Bring: Plenty of water, wear hiking boots, pack enough food, have extra socks and don’t forget to leave early from Ke`e Beach.
Use Caution: If the stream is high turn back. Do not swim under the falls since rocks or heavy tree limbs may come over.
