A natural wonder of Kauai is the exotic Na Pali Coast. With rugged beauty immersed in Hawaiian history, this northwest shore Kauai activity has inspired countless generations. You’ll never forget its spectacular cliffs rising 4,000 feet into the sky, remote Kauai beaches without footprints, breathtaking panoramas that feel like you’ve reached Shangri-La, lush waterfalls cascading from tall green mountains and fantastic sea caves carved into the cliffs. No matter where your Kauai vacation rental is located, you’ll be within easy reach of Na Pali’s grandeur.
Napali Coast State Wilderness Park, Kalalau Beach campsites and the 11-mile Kalalau Trail are expected to reopen on June 17, 2019. See our updated North Shore Kauai road news which includes new parking regulations.
Look closely and you’ll still see remnants of the past. Ancient Hawaiians built temples (Heiau) at Na Pali which means “the Cliffs” in their language. One of their temples here was considered the most important school for Hawaiian Hula for over 1,000 years. They also planted taro fields, fished from the ocean and built houses and canoe shelters.
The majestic Na Pali coast spans 16 miles of inaccessible shoreline and covers 6,175 dazzling acres of the Garden Island. During your Kauai vacation you can choose from a variety of ways to explore this unforgettable paradise.
Kauai Hiking at Na Pali
Start at Ke`e Beach and decide how far to go. Day permits are not needed to Hanakoa Valley (6 miles from trail head). Beyond this point a valid camping permit is required. For a shorter hike go as far as Hanakapiai Beach which is two hours each way.
Na Pali Boat Tours
Most tours leave from Port Allen on the Westside near Eleele. Our pick is Holo Holo Charters. You can also choose their new Na Pali Snorkel Adventure that leaves from Hanalei.
Kauai Helicopter Tours
Perfect if you’re short on time. Since 1962, Jack Harter Helicopters has been taking visitors over Na Pali. In just an hour you’ll experience the beauty of Kauai from the air.
Driving To Na Pali
Guests staying at our Hanalei rentals and at Princeville Resort are a short drive to Ke`e Beach which is the trail head for the Kalalua Trail. Our Poipu rental guests can drive an hour to Polihale Beach where the Na Pali coast begins at the end of its five mile beach. Everyone goes to Waimea Canyon and Kokee at least once. From the end of the road at Kokee, you’ll be rewarded with a view of the Kalalau Valley as it slopes magnificently to the ocean.
Whichever way you choose to experience Na Pali, we invite you to share your memories and travel tips.
