Kauai is full of intriguing tourist attractions, but for an authentic experience, travelers must get off the beaten path. However, without the help of a local, it can be challenging for visitors to go beyond the classic attractions and activities. That is where the team at Parrish Kauai comes in; not only do we offer vacation rentals throughout the Garden Isle, but this is where we live. Here are three hidden gems we think you should experience when you visit Kauai.
Three of Kauai’s Hidden Gems
Away from Kauai’s crowded tourist attractions, the island is quiet and peaceful. There is something to be said about visiting somewhere without standing in long lines. These three hidden gems in Kauai will help you avoid the crowds and relax in paradise.
Makauwahi Cave Reserve
While visitors flock to Kauai to enjoy the exquisite beaches and lush forests, many overlook the beauty of the Makauwahi Cave. This cave is the largest limestone cave in Hawaii and also the most significant fossil site on Kauai. You might recognize it; a scene from Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides was filmed here. If you are interested in history, nature, and adventure, this hidden gem is the place for you.
The Makauwahi Cave Reserve offers free tours of the cave daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., but you can also explore on your own if you would like. The hike to the cave is short but beautiful, with great views; there are over 100 species of native plants in the area. After exploring the cave, there is a tortoise sanctuary next door to enjoy as well.
Old Sugar Mill of Koloa
Sugarcane was once big business on Kauai. Today, you can see evidence of the industry throughout the island, from plantations to hand-dug ditches once used for irrigation that is now used for tubing. However, the best place to take a step back into this part of Kauai’s history is at the Old Sugar Mill of Koloa. This sugar mill, built back in 1841, is a National Historic Landmark, and admission is free. It is part of the Koloa Heritage Trail, a 10-mile self-guided tour of the area’s most significant sights.
Hideaways Beach
Kauai’s famous beaches are a must-stop, but if you want to get away from the crowds and enjoy a little privacy in paradise, head to Hideaways Beach. Tucked below two Kauai resorts at the top of Princeville, Hideaways Beach offers seclusion and clear, turquoise waters. Here, you can take in amazing views of Bali Hai and relax in peace.

Looking for a 6 bedroom from March 11-19 2023 for a family vacation with 10 adults

Aloha Gary, we do not have any six bedroom homes. Normally, I would say booked some of our neighboring homes as well, but those are booked out. The only option would be to rent three two bedroom condos (or some other variation). Best to call us at 800.325.5701 so we can guide you to as what is available. Mahalo
