Wonderful home. The pool was great for the kids! Homeowner was super responsive to any questions or requests.

The most special home we’ve ever rented. Gorgeous views, great location, lovely gardens and pool. The owner had tasteful artwork, many by herself. Frig seemed a bit problematic and no evidence if malfunction before or after we arrived. Glad we had rental insurance. Would 100% recommend this home and would rent again.

The property was spectacular with incredible views of the Spouting Horn, boats and crashing waves. The grounds were lush and well maintained! The house was big enough for all 10 of us to feel comfortable, not crowded. It was very comfortable and felt like a home instead of a vacation spot. We all loved the beach near by (only a 5 min walk) and appreciated the pool as a way to relax and play with the little ones in our group. If you are considering this house…don’t hesitate a second. It will provide so many wonderful memories!!!

Spacious home with oceanfront views-breathtaking and stunning. Our grandkids and family enjoyed the private pool and beautiful sunsets from the backyard and balcony. We enjoyed our stay tremendously in this gorgeous property in paradise . Property was in a great location as it was convenient to drive to beaches, shops, and restaurants. We would love to return again in the near future.

Spectacular house with wonderful view. Large eating areas inside and out for family dining. Easy access to beaches and island attractions. Owner was very communicative. The whole family thoroughly enjoyed the house and the stay.

The home is so comfortable and spacious, the property has many outdoor living options, and the view is priceless. The photo of the pool right at the edge of the ocean is accurate. Our host was responsive and checked in on us.The layout of the house worked very well for our family of nine. Layout: the front door opens up to a landing with a 1/2 bath and a laundry room. The family room, dining area, kitchen, and Master suite are upstairs from the landing. There is a private balcony off the bedroom. The family room has a VERY comfortable sectional sofa, and there is a balcony off the dining area. Downstairs from the landing, there are 2 large bedrooms, a full bath, a closet with beach towels, and a closet with beach chairs and beach toys. The 3rd "bedroom" downstairs is actually a studio apartment with a 3/4 bath, small kitchen, sectional sofa, and Murphy bed. All 3 downstairs rooms have a solid wall of sliding glass doors opening up onto the back deck/pool and ocean. The third bedroom has a large cooler and several fishing poles in the closets. Caveats: the 2 downstairs bedrooms have sheer curtains; the 3rd has none. The downstairs kitchen cabinets are empty. The note about only supplying basic items to start you off is true - we ran out of toilet paper and garbage bags quickly with 9 people. The kitchen is not stocked - be sure to take inventory and make a shopping list when you first get there. Overall, our stay was amazing.

Our family agreed this was the best vacation we’ve ever had. The house was amazing—spacious enough for three generations, with ten of us all together. The view, the pool, the location, and the sound of the waves were truly magical. The owner was quick to respond, professional, and very helpful. Our adult children and grandchildren are already talking about coming back…

Beautiful property, even better then the pictures. Very close to poipu but in a more private neighborhood that makes it feel separated from the resorts. Easy communication with the host who was very responsive. House and pool were very clean and well equipped. Views were impeccable!

My family of four (husband and teenage daughter and son), had a very peaceful stay at Gale's home. Gale's instructions were very clear and I appreciated her thoroughness in detail. The house was well-stocked with seasonings, pots and pans and everything we needed to make breakfast (we went out for dinners). The home and furnishing could use a little updating, but we had no complaints. And the view out to the ocean, with the harbor to our left and Spouting Horn to our right was priceless. We loved hanging out in the pool, watching the sun set over Spouting Horn. And had daily rainbows on either side of us. You could easily walk to Lawai Beach and Beach House Restaurant. Kukui'ula Shopping Center was just a few minutes drive away, and very easy to get anywhere in Poipu and Koloa. Would eefinitely stay again!

This well-maintained home offers stunning views and a great location. We enjoyed seeing sea turtles in the ocean in front of the home, sunning by the pool and the convenient location to Koloa, Old Koloa Town and Poipu. The owner was responsive and communicative and we enjoyed ourselves immensely!

This house is positioned so incredibly: Sunsets while seeing Spouting Horn! Whales, turtles and seals swam by daily and 1 pod of dolphins. The house was so spacious. My husband and I are on mountain time and awoke before the sun rose daily, with the kitchenette downstairs we were able to have coffee and not disturb my parents upstairs. We have stayed in 2 other houses on Lawai road and this was the 1st one to have AC, such a treat! My family will remember these memories forever; thank you Gail for sharing your slice of heaven with complete strangers

Location, location, location. And this place has location (and amenities). We loved our stay here. You are literally right on the ocean, and you also have a great pool right on the ocean. Did I mention this place is right on the ocean? Seriously, you can’t beat the views and sounds of this place. We will absolutely stay here again.

We loved being so close to the water, listening to the waves, and catching glimpses of spouting whales in the distance. The main living area was gorgeous with the giant windows, it felt like we were on a boat. Also enjoyed Gale's artwork throughout. Our only minor complaint was the air conditioning: the units in the bedrooms were extremely loud, and the one in the living room took a long time to cool the space. Everything else was great, we had a fantastic stay.

Enjoyed everything about this beach house. Sunrises and sunsets were so memorable. Snorkel beach nearby and pool. Fully furnished kitchen. Property Manager was “over the top” responsive.

Had a great time. Home is conveniently located near restaurants, shopping, beaches, and hiking. This home is spacious compared to others we have stayed at. Although some of the house may appear outdated, it still served all our purposes well. Fourth bedroom (with murphy bed) did not have A/C, but we used extra fans for it. Communication with host was very good. The garden and landscaping was quite beautiful. Great value for this size home. Thank you

vrbo Our group, 6 retired women who have been friends for 40 years, took our first trip together. The house was perfect for us. Four shared two bedrooms and two had own room. The kitchen was well equipped with all utensils, etc that you would need. The location is absolutely beautiful. Lovely pool and outside areas for watching crashing waves. Close to BotanicalGarden, a sandy beach and good happy hours! Suggest you buy food at Costco near airport. Local market very expensive. There was no salt and pepper, cooking oils, or any other staples at house. We thought there would be some to get started but ended up having to purchase basics. Accidentally,(we still have no idea how) someone turned on the pool hose fill line resulting in us losing our damage deposit. Gale, the owner was great in her communications with us about this. First conversation with VRBO , however was a nightmare. Everything got straightened out though and we did not let this ruin what was a really great trip. Highly recommend staying at this beautiful place.

vrbo Very comfortable for our family gathering of 7 adults . Stargazing from the pool deck was amazing, with clear views of the Milky Way. The downsides were a limited supply of paper products, and a poorly functioning freezer drawer.

This was the perfect base for a fantastic few days on Kauai's beautiful South Shore. Wonderful holiday home with everything we need for a family with very active teenage boys! We loved the location, and the spectacular ocean front pool - with views of the famous Spouting Horn. Highly recommend!

This property is beautiful. Directly on the ocean with gorgeous views, sunset, and direct sightline to Spouting Horn. The garden and plants are beautiful and we LOVED using the pool! Just a perfect property, outdoor space, and overall location. Five minute drive to the super cute town of Koloa which we frequented often. Short walk to a small beach and short drive to several other lovely beaches and restaurants. The house is nice. If you are looking for luxury accommodations this is not it, the house could definitely use some updates, but overall a nice space that fit our group of 10 comfortably and had all necessities. Gale responded to all communication right away and was always available. She's a very responsive host. Beach gear (snorkels, sand toys, chairs, etc.) were a great added perk as well as plenty of towels and 2 washer/dryer sets. Overall, I would definitely consider this property again! You just can't beat the location and outdoor property, pool, and view. Thank you Gale!

Amazing property exactly as depicted. Location in Poipu is spectacular with multiple snorkeling locations very close. The pool was a great way to spend the mornings and evening. House is perfect in a spectacular location with the waves crashing all day long. Really quite amazing. Easy access to the entire south and west portion of the island. Less than 30 minutes from dozens of hikes. Less than 10 minutes from any amenity you may need. Incredible location and great house

This was a great place for our friends getaway. A group of us all stayed in this home for the weekend. Having the pool and the great view was very nice, the upstairs is another great place to gather with our group to enjoy meals. The master bedroom was perfect for us to set up a pack and play for our baby to get some quiet naps in throughout the day.

This property is SO amazing! There was 10 of us in total and all of us had our own space! The location is perfect for a lot of things! There is plenty of everything you need such as towels, dishes. We cooked every meal while we were there. Saved us a ton of money! No reason to go anywhere other than the house! To be able to lay on your bed or look out of any window, you can see the Spouting Horn. The owner of the house, Gale was SO responsive if we needed anything or had questions on how to make something work. We will go back again and again. Thank you Gale for everything!

House is in a wonderful location. We had gorgeous sunsets, and nearby beaches and shopping.There’s lots of room for everyone. The teens loved the pool.

This was a fantastic home with a pool on the ocean's edge. The layout was great for the family to gather, within easy driving distance of shops, restaurants, and other parts of the island. It was a short walk to the Spouting Horn, botanical gardens, and the beach. The host was very prompt when questions were asked. The pots, pans, etc., in the fully equipped kitchen made it easy to cook meals at home. We all loved the house. I highly recommend a relaxing stay here.

We had a great time at this house. The views are as advertised and in September the sun set right over the peninsula that the spouting horn was on. Some people walked to there, the gardens, the RipTide shave ice shack, the small boat harbor beach. So it was a great location if you needed to split up. The bedrooms all faced out with great views. We used the Murphy bed room and while not air conditioned it did get good ventilation at night. The pool was a good temperature and we used the green float left by a previous reviewer.

First off Gale is an amazing host, proactive and accurate in all communication, thank you, Gale! You wake up and walk into the living room, and there's ocean everywhere. You feel like you are on a houseboat, it's just water everywhere. And the private pool was the best! To be able to walk out, take a swim, lay out, shower off outside, and repeat that all day long was priceless! No lugging stuff back and forth to your room, nobody talking or playing loud music next to you, just amazing. We didn't cook but the kitchen is big and had everything we needed, the subzero fridge is huge. AC worked great, and the property was spotless. Yes the ocean salt rusts and corrodes things here and there, and puts pits/scale in/on some outdoor finishes, that's because it's OCEANFRONT! I can't see how a valid complaint could ever be made against this property. It's a multimillion-dollar house that lets you live with celebrity views at a fantastic price. There's an entire huge closet full of beach toys, floaties (we left a green raft there we bought to enjoy), snorkel gear, ice chest, etc. Poipu is 3 minutes drive, tons of restaurants. The best and most memorable thing we have ever done, mahalo!

Everything that was advertised! The family vacation was relaxing and the pool was great for both the kids and adults. Great location.

vrbo So excited about our vacation home...arriving found dirty dishes and cutlery in cabinets; A/C in kitchen not working and cleaner told us they reported this prior to our visit. Musty 3rd downstairs bedroom-had to close door, not use this shower/bath & put towel at door to block smell. Portable fan in downstairs bedroom blowing dust (fan caked with dust) onto bedskirt. Owner very responsive: 1 cleaner arrived day after our arrival to clean as much as she could. The chandelier over dining table caked with grime/dust. A/C company arrived Monday as well as handyman (master toilet "ran" every hour)-new toilet recommended; we asked they wait until we left. A/C problem was due to owner's handwritten with poor instructions. We sent owner MANY photos of poor, cumulative dirt. House needs deep cleaning. Owner requested we vacate Monday (after just arriving Sat.) as she was sure we would not be happy (right!), she would not charge us as she didn't want a bad review. Unfortunately, we could not find accommodations for our family in one day! If you have ALLERGIES, do not rent this property. These are only a few of the negatives and I have photos! (We have home in tropics so understand what it takes to keep a home clean.) Suggest owner pull house from market for a month and have it deep cleaned. (even books are musty/mildewed)

We just stayed at this lovely oceanside home with my parents and siblings. All of us but one guest were adults. We loved having coffee in the morning on the upstairs deck, watching spouting horn. Afternoons post island adventures were spent in the pool. The kitchen was quite adequate as was the gas grill. We had many wonderful family dinners in the dinning room. Best of all was falling asleep listening to the waves. Only things that our crew would have wanted improvement on was the downstairs bedroom curtains and the parking which was narrow for three cars. This was the perfect retreat close to all the great locations on the south side and our host was wonderful!

The main criteria for our search was we wanted enough beds for everyone, to be on the water and a pool. This property delivered on all counts. Lots of love and memories were made!

This was the perfect home for our extended family. The location was terrific! The views of the ocean and harbor were terrific. The kitchen was well stocked. The huge dining room table hosted one of my favorite memories of our time together! The beds were very comfortable. The pool was very clean and thoroughly enjoyed! Lots of outdoor sitting areas which were wonderful. We only turned on the tv once in 9 days! Can I say more?

Easy access

The Location was amazing!!! It was if the the waves rolled in and out of the house. The sound was intoxicating. Very well stocked kitchen, beach chairs, towels both beach and everyday.

We had a lovely stay. The house was great for our family ranging in age from 11 to 82.

We had a wonderful stay at this home in Kauai. The location is fantastic, right on the water and within a short walk to a beach (that our little kids could do and haul our stuff) with good snorkeling and walking distance to the gardens/spouting horn as well. The pool was excellent and there are some pool toys, sand toys and boogie boards available. Some of these might need updated including the umbrella and some floaties that weren't working when we arrived. Some of the bathrooms are a little older but we weren't surprised by this based on prior reviews but the location made up for this. We used the room with the murphy bed. There is no AC in there but there are lots of fans. The "futon" in the upstairs room is more just a loft area that can be used as an office but not really a separate room in my opinion; however the couch in the murphy room can also sleep a guest. You can see spouting horn from the lanai and the sunset every night. The kitchen and family room being open was nice for eating meals together. Overall the kitchen is supplied with ample dishes. We stayed for 2 weeks and were only supplied garbage bags, toilet paper and paper-towels for 1 week which apparently is standard but I think for the price we would have expected this as we ran out of toilet paper before 1 week actually. I think the prior posts accurately set us up for proper expectations and definitely the location and the pool make this site a wonderful location and made for a great stay!

vrbo Home was just as listed. it's casual with lots of room for family to gather and enjoy the island. Kids loved the pool and it was a quick walk to the beach. It worked out great for a 4-generation family trip. The house can get a little warm in the afternoon but we were outside most of the day and the air in the bedrooms or the refreshing winds off the ocean made for great sleeping.

We have stayed at this rental twice now over a 5 year span. And each time it has been truly magical. The house was perfect for our family of 7 adults and 2 children. With places to both congregate together as a group & to hide and take a quiet moment to nap or read alone. The pool was a highlight & fishing right off the break wall. We will be back again in 5 years again, I hope!

The island of Kauai and our vacation rental made for a fantastic week for our family of nine, including parents, youngsters, and grandparents. The location of this home could not have been better. It is charming, comfortable, and well-appointed. The owner contacted us on the first day to ask if we needed anything. A minor problem was resolved quickly. The youngsters loved the pool and nearby beaches. Adults loved the views.

Rescheduled two years running due to Covid. Excellent host accommodated unforseen changes. Wonderful experience for all

We just returned from a lovely stay in Kauai. The home was very spacious and the location was amazing. Short walk to the nearby beach. Quiet neighborhood. Three of the bedrooms and main living area have a/c. The “den” type room with the Murphy bed does not. It cooled off some in that room n the evening, but that guest opted for the futon in the loft which was cooler. The pool was great and house was well stocked with beach gear.

Upon entering this property you’re blown away by the view of the ocean. The property was spacious and large enough for our multigenerational family. The pool was a hit with the children. The property was well equipped with beach items. The large and well appointed kitchen worked great for us as we ate most meals in. I can definitely recommend this house to all.

We absolutely loved this home. While the pictures in the VRBO post are lovely, they really don't do them justice. The scenery is breathtaking and the home was very comfortable and in an amazing location. My family and I highly recommend this property. Also, Kudos to Gale the owner who was an attentive host who checked on us and was very available should we have questions. Our daughter accidentally left her toiletry bag (with her retainer in it) and Gale very kindly located the bag and arranged to have it shipped to us at home.

We have stayed at many oceanfront homes in Koloa over the last 20 years and this is best setting, location, and view we have seen. You feel like you are on the ocean when you first enter the home, with the all glass wall you see nothing but the blue ocean! Sit on the deck and watch spouting horn to the right, open ocean with turtles and whales directly ahead , and sea canoes paddle around the jetty to the left. Every room has a view of the ocean. The sandy beach is just a few hundred feet away, but with your own pool at the edge of the ocean, won’t want to leave.

This house was a wonderful place to stay for our group of 9 (including grandparents, parents, and kids). There are amazing ocean views from every room in the house. Location is great...Lawai road is fairly quiet by the house, and the shops and restaurants are close by and convenient to get to. There were plenty of amenities and courtesy items to get us through a 5 night stay. I had read previous reviews about sticky notes and rules in the house, and I didn't find them a hindrance or annoyance, but rather helpful cues of things not to bother with. We went to the beach several days and there were nice beach chairs, beach towels, and some beach toys for the kids. My boys enjoyed the fishing gear as well. There are definitely things that could be updated throughout the house, but nothing that would prevent me from recommending this place or staying here again. Gale was easy to communicate with and checked in with me on our second day to make sure we had everything we needed. We just returned from spring break and we watched whales from the lanai every day!!

Great location and views

vrbo I have been renting homes for my family and I for a few years now and this was definitely a mixed-bag of pros & cons. Let’s start with the pros! - Amazing location, truly can’t be in a better position for sunset views, as well a direct view of Spouting Horn. - Yard & garden are lush and amazing. The deck spaces are great too, but the dining sets were too small for our group so we are indoors - Layout of the house is interesting and the architecture really highlights the natural surroundings - Rare to find a proper 3bd FULL bath home! Great for our family of 5 adults. - Kitchen is well laid out and full of supplies. Fridge is super large for extra drinks or appetizer trays - Beach closet is FULL of chairs, toys, umbrellas and plenty of beach towels - Driveway can fit more than 1 rental car which is great for big groups - Air conditioners in each room work really well! We ended up needing it in January, so keep that in mind while you search - Harbor beach is truly a 3 minute walk from the front door. The road is narrow so I would suggest driving if you have small children as there are no sidewalks Cons - Communication with the owner was a little tense. Note that the check in time is 5pm, something I looked over so we were stuck without a spot and cold groceries between our rentals from 10am-5pm. I tried to contact the host and ask if there was any chance we could at least drop our bags and I was told its not possible. Turns out the housekeepers must have been finished early because we we arrive at 4:45 it was empty. Would have been really kind of the owner to let us know it was ready early. Seems petty to be so strict about check in (especially at this price point!) - Furniture is old and needs replacement - Bathrooms need a total gut. I didn’t use the shower in our bathroom because it was so cramped and small - House needs to be painted, the rooms fill with a musty smell if closed up too long - Cluttered with old technology, decor and light switches that cannot

Went with two families and our kiddos to Gale's amazing house this winter and we didn't want to leave. The views are unreal, the sunsets and sunrises are brilliant, and having the pool at our fingertips was the icing on the cake. Wonderful wonderful rental. I see some people had some comments about the notes on how to operate things - we found them useful not too intrusive. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a perfect Kauai rental.

We were three couples that had a wonderful time! Lots of space to enjoy each other's company and Poipu is close by! I'd stay there again in a heartbeat!

This house was phenomenal! The Views! Every room had an ocean view! The Spacious House! The multiple decks, seating, kitchen dishes/cookware, beach towels…. You name it- This property had it! It only took 2 minutes to walk to the beach or the Spouting Horn. Very close to shopping, dinner spots and the best beaches around! We had an amazing time and have nothing negative to say about this property! We will definitely be back and we will definitely stay here again!

Great opportunity to be together with kids and grandkids for a week and have a pool right there and lots of adventures not far away. Property decently maintained although some updates would have been more inviting, e.g., dryer, dishwasher, air conditioners. Air conditioning in all rooms would be preferred. I slept downstairs in the room with the Murphy bed and A/C was needed there. A/C in main room weak. Wonderful to get up each morning overlooking the ocean and hearing the waves. Great family time!

Gale is a lovely host and was prompt in her replies and easy to get Iin touch with and also had instructions all Over the house that were very helpful. We will for Sure consider it again during our next visit

Our group of 10 adults just returned from an amazing 10 Days at Kauai. This property had everything needed and the best location imaginable. Great rooms either poolside or with an incredible view. Spacious living and dining areas and great outdoor seating upstairs and by the pool. We prepared almost all meals in house. We were able to watch whales throughout the stay and and on 2 occasions many dolphins. The pool was also great to have on site. We also watched Spouting Horn from the Lanai. We will definitely look into this property again.

The location was amazing, right on the water. The house is large and comfortable. Communication with the owner was very good and detailed. Some things In the home could be updated: In one of the rooms the air conditioner was so loud, it couldn’t be used at night. It was difficult to get the temperature comfortable through the house. The bedrooms don’t have curtains that block the light, so you might end up rising with the sun. We would consider staying there again due to location and size, but would probably look for other options first.

We started here on the first part of our trip. Large house, clean tropical grounds, private pool, safe morning walks, great sunsets, stocked kitchen, evening Bbq's and star gazing. Everything we hope for. Thanks for sharing the house.

Overall a beautiful location. Fantastic views. Beautiful sunrises. Had a few issues with the inside regarding the room without air but it was addressed in a timely manner. Beautiful kitchen and living room. Well stocked with dishes. Minimal supplies - no laundry detergent or shampoos but did provide a small bar of soap in each bathroom. Three lounge chairs outside. Would recommend getting more as a large family like ours had to take turns using them. Most beds were comfortable. The person who cleans and maintains property was fantastic. Very accommodating to our needs. Beautiful little beach near by that is not crowded.

I wanted a house with spectacular views and I got it! House was clean and the location was perfect.

This home was absolutely perfect for our family getaway! we comfortably fit a total of 8 guests. The house was very clean and well stocked. We did run to Costco and Walmart as suggested by Gayle to grab food and drinks but other than that everything else was in the home. The views were phenomenal from the back yard-we especially enjoyed watching the birds fly overhead every morning and every evening! Spouting Horn was right outside the back door for our viewing pleasure. The sandy beach was steps away with a long pier to fish from which my brother and husband enjoyed. Last but not least, the pool was amazing! who doesn't enjoy swimming and watching the waves roll in, talk about relaxing! All in all this house made our trip. Thank you Gayle!

We have been to Kauai several times but his particular year seemed to be overly warm- the AC in the bedrooms made it comfortable at night and was a huge plus. We used them sparingly and only at night. There are multiple fans throughout the house and had fans aimed at the babies at night to keep them comfortable even though the heat in their room ( which was downstairs in the spare bedroom without an AC) was 84 degrees. The home was plenty roomy enough for 6 adults and 2 babies. We would go to different beaches every morning and come back to enjoy the private pool overlooking the ocean- amazing!!

Our family of 7 adults found Hale Hokuu Too perfect for our needs and exceeded our expectations. The location was fantastic from which to base our excursions (North Shore, Na Pali coast cruise, Waimea Canyon) and sporting activities (surfing, diving,golf,snorkeling and hiking) We loved being on the ocean and the pool was an added bonus. The outdoor space and barbecue were popular and the kitchen well equipped for cooking and eating together when we were not out enjoying the local restaurants. We found the area quiet and the ocean breezes kept the house comfortable without any need for the air conditioning. Overall, would gladly stay there again!!

First of all, let me say the location of this house is amazing. Most of the other reviews have touched on this so I won't be repetitive. Gale (the owner) was very nice as I set up our reservations. When we arrived, we were right on the heels of another renter who had just left, so the house was very clean and ready to go for us. Once we opened all of the sliding doors, we had a very nice breeze blowing throughout the house and no A/C was needed. From reading other reviews, we were very nervous to use the A/C for fear of losing some of our security deposit. As mentioned in other reviews, there are many don't do this, don't do that signs around the house. It did leave a sour taste with everyone in our party. Owning a rental myself, I understand the need to take care of the property, but there's an acceptable and an offensive way to do this. Gale's way was a bit abrasive for us. One example is that she has put a butcher block countertop by the cooktop in the kitchen which has a number of signs asking not to cut on it, and don't put anything wet or hot on it. A kitchen is not the type of place to have this type of countertop when you're dealing with hot pans and things that are wet. She has nice granite everywhere else in the kitchen. I don't know why she didn't put it there too. With the exception of the kitchen and living room, the house is feeling a little worn out. It feels like a house that's up for sale, mainly because it is, since there's a "for sale" sign in front of the house. It was great to sit out on the deck in the morning with a hot cup of coffee and look out on the beautiful ocean. Not a bad spot for a nighttime cocktail either! Gale had just bought a nice bbq which we cooked on a couple of nights. Thank you for that. The best beach for snorkeling in the Poipu area is only about a mile from the house at Lawai beach. There's a big selection of fish there, and depending on the time of day, it's not that crowded. After snorkeling, it was so nice to come

The location of this home is great! Beautiful views, easy access to beaches and shopping and restaurants. The house is very dated, and could use a good cleaning. When we arrived, there was a strong odor of mildew. We opened up all of the windows and doors and within a few hours it was much better. The beds are not comfortable, and smell musty as well. The dust and mustiness caused some health issues for those of us staying that do have allergies and asthma. This was surprising to all of us because we had read about how particular the owner is about rules, and has them posted everywhere, so we expected the home to be pristine. It is not. The master bathroom is especially dusty / dirty above the sink area ( ceiling area) and hasn’t been cleaned in a long time. There are rules posted everywhere, ( as if it’s a preschool) and it does make the visit to the home less comfortable and welcoming. There are people that walk on the sea wall for fishing,etc. and it is truly steps from the home, so security from the water side concerned us, And the owner does warn about that in her notes. The home is very loud, with all tile floors and lots of hard surfaces, and you can hear talking and walking around from bedroom to bedroom and from upstairs when you are downstairs. All in all, the location is beautiful, but we will not choose to stay in this home again., due to the lack of cleanliness, the musty smells and the lack of comfort.

Our family of eight enjoyed a wonderful week at this spacious Kauai home. There is nothing like stepping out on to the deck to a beautiful sunset in the evening, and sitting by the pool in the afternoon watching the sea turtles swim. We all used the pool (which was warm enough despite not being heated) and loved the nearby beach-- which was not crowded despite the holiday. Good proximity to restaurants, shopping and other amenities. The layout allowed us all to have personal space and the common areas were large enough for us to gather comfortably. The house was well equipped with 2 washer dryers, tableware and beach toys. The only reason for 4 rather than 5 stars is that some of the decor and amenities (e.g. barbeque, cookware) were a bit dated. Definitely recommended for a family trip. We hope to return.

Our family of 8 had a wonderful time in Kauai and this property definitely contributed towards that positive experience. The view is by far our favorite part - stunning from both inside the house and anywhere in the garden. The location is great, tucked in between Spouting Horn and a small, uncrowded beach perfect for kids. We watched sea turtles, fish, dolphins, Spouting Horn, rainbows, and surfers all from the patio. You are literally steps from the ocean in your own private, beautiful garden. The house had plenty of room for us to be together yet have privacy. The pool was a treat for cooling off and a nice place for kids (and adults) to play while grilling dinner. We chose not to use the AC; we were comfortable enough with the cross ventilation, although it does get warm in the afternoons. My guess is that the three bedroom AC units are smarter bets - the common area of the house would be expensive to cool down significantly. The house is generally a bit dated but it was very clean and everything worked perfectly (including the WIFI and cable). The kitchen has updated, high end appliances and plenty of pans, small appliances, etc. Our kids used the 4th room with the Murphy bed - there is no AC in this room but it had the best cross ventilation on the bottom floor (and I think their bed was more comfortable than any of the others as it is likely less used!). Gale was very easy to work with - very professional and responsive. Do note that paying by check is going to be your cheapest option (Gale did explain this during the payment processs - I had no surprises). The only drawback for me were the signs and house rules (which other reviews mention). There are many and some are rather abruptly stated. However, they bothered me (the rule follower in the group) more than other members of my party and in the end, they did not detract from halving a great vacation. I would definitely recommend this property for a family in Kauai. I’m amazed that we were able to find

This home is located in a great area and neighborhood. We loved swimming in the pool and being oceanfront. It took some adjusting to get use to the noise the ocean makes while sleeping. The home is well equipped and comfortable but dated. Enjoyed the large dining table for the family to gather around. There are many rules posted to follow, but mostly common sense requests. The A/C system is insufficient and the home stays stuffy and warm. We only used the A/C part time in the late afternoon/evening and we were charged an additional fee which was disappointing. We had a great vacation and love Kauai.

A lovely, well-appointed house on Kauai’s south shore. We had a wonderful week there, and it lived up to our expectations in every way. The house is on a quiet stretch of shore, within an easy walk of Spouting Horn, and not much farther from several small, pleasant beaches, along with the local shopping areas and restaurants. The many notes and signs seemed a little forceful at first, but several of them were helpful reminders, and Gale was very thoughtful and helpful when we needed help with a few things. The house was very well-furnished and in good shape, which the signs no doubt help preserve. One of our party felt one of the mattresses was too soft, but the others were fine. The shoreline is right past the backyard, in a perfect spot to sunbathe and watch the waves. The pool is unheated, but that can be a relief on a hot day. There’s even a closet chock full of pool and beach toys for the kids and beach chairs for the grown-ups. The more modern conveniences are all there - wi-fi, cable, and smart TV streaming all worked perfectly. The kitchen was perfect for cooking breakfast or dinner, with plenty of cookware and tableware. Overall, we had a great time in Kauai, and having a place like this to come home to was a major part of it. Definitely recommended!

The listing promises much and in our experience the promises were fulfilled perfectly. The house is large and the rooms are spacious. The views are magnificent, especially at sunset. The kitchen is well provisioned with dishes and utensils. The bbq grill is large and works well. The beds are comfortable. The location is convenient to beaches, shopping, and restaurants. We highly recommend staying here.

Our family of five stayed at HH2 from 11/7 through to 11/11/17. The house was beautifully situated right on the ocean with a great view of the sunset and the Spouting Horn. The grassed back yard sloped down from the pool to the ocean wall as this was not a beach front home. It was a short walk to a small, protected beach and park where you could easily make a day of sunning and snorkeling there. The house was well equipped and there wasn\'t anything we needed that wasn\'t there in the kitchen, family room or three bedrooms. You could sleep more folks in different rooms without difficulty. They also had beach chairs and mats, snorkeling equipment, games, and cable TV in most of the rooms. You could not park in the garage however. We made good use of the gas barbeque and grilled a few delicious meals on it. There were plenty of activities on the island that did not require a long drive, unless you want to see Waimea Canyon. We hired a private tour guide with a comfortable van to take us there so it was personalized and not touristy. There were a few nitpicking things that affected our stay. There were a lot of little signs placed in the kitchen and family rooms telling visitors what they could and could not do. Some light switches were taped off such as a switch to turn on outdoor flood lights that lit up the ocean at night making it pretty to see the waves coming in. Use of air conditioners were also limited during the day which made the house very warm when you came home from a day of activities. We understood the cost of electricity on the island was high but eating meals in a room that was quite warm was a bit unpleasant. Nonetheless, we highly recommend that anyone looking for a great ocean front home that sleeps a good number of people (up to 8) should stay here.

Spent a week at Hale Hokuu Too with 8 adults and 2 small children for my parent's 60th birthdays. The location was perfect: short drive to shops/stores, short walk to a shaved ice stand, and an even shorter walk to a great beach (super kid-friendly and great snorkling there). The grounds were beautiful: nicely manicured, amazing views, the pool & bbq were a huge plus too. The house was great: it was big enough for our large group to have plenty of space to congregate, as well as, everyone to have their own room. There were also a lot of "extras" that were really nice to have as well: umbrella stroller, high chair, pool toys, beach towels, etc. We never turned on the a/c, just used fans throughout the house and swam in the pool when the house got too hot - and that was fine for us. Gale was attentive and responsive but not overly so in any way. I would recommend this house to anyone heading to Kauai without a second thought.

Everything was exactly as we expected it. The views were great. The beaches were close and we live loved the pool. I loved that Gail called us right away to make sure we got in and give us updates. Don't have second thoughts about renting this. It's terrific!

Run from this listing or cancel your reservation if you can. There were many red flags with this owner that I shouldn't have overlook but did. She was not flexible at all, made me pay with pay pal increasing the cost of the rental over $200 on paypal fees she agreed to refund $50 of it which she did not. Our security deposit was $1,050 she refunded $493 only claiming we spent more than $500 in electricity during a 3 day stay. Yes she charges additional per day per usage over $20. This house is a very dated, very old furnishings, needs a total facelift. There is no central AC most rooms are very hot during the afternoon and the 4th bedroom, is really a murphy bed, we couldn't use because there isn't AC. There are notes all over the house warning if you use more electricity you will be charge, if you disconnect the internet you will be charge, if you unplug the appliances you will be charge, If you loose a key, you will be charge $300. Threatening notes "Don't eat in my couch" The view is excellent the ocean is right outside the window but the bathrooms are old and we could only get hot water on the master bathroom so all 5 of us had to take turns showering. I never ate there for fear of staining her cheap wood counters. She left notes on not leaving glasses on counter. The dining room table had a cheap plastic table cloth. This is insane. She shouldn't be renting her home if she is this overprotective of her dated old cheap furnishings. Upon leaving I cleaned that house in fear of loosing my deposit which I did. We felt so unwelcome and afraid to eat or seat on his totally dated cheaply furnished home. Is old and not worth the price we paid. I am so traumatized by this experience I may never use home away again. We stayed at a 5 star resort in Maui cheaper and better than this place was.

We came here with 3 couples and 2 toddlers (~1 1/2 years old). First, the location is excellent and the home is beautiful and comfortable. It was easy to walk to the small bay and Po'ipu beach is a very close drive. Gale was quite accessible and very ready to provide information. She's more involved than other hosts, so that was a different experience for us; we are more used to benign neglect. I know this doesn't apply to many, but from the perspective of having a couple little kids roaming around - the bottom half of the house is pretty child-proofed and they have lots of pool/beach toys and even an umbrella stroller that came in handy for us. The main hazards were the stair cases (blocked on the bottom floor) and the outside/pool area. So if you're traveling with little ones, you'll have to keep a close eye. The other thing that may not apply to most is that being 7 months pregnant, the lack of A/C in the common area upstairs was tough for me especially if I had to stay in the house waiting for a naptime to end in the late afternoon. The west facing windows have incredible views but they also get LOTS of sun so it warms up quickly. The bottom area is a bit cooler because it's less exposed. All in all, I think this is a great property. But given our particulars - little kids, very pregnant, maybe not the best time for us to visit this place.

vrbo We've been coming to Kauai for the past 19 years and have stayed in a number of residences along the south shore. Hale Hokuu Too is possibly the most complete rental property we have found. Gale wants her guests to have the best possible experience during their stay. She is attentive to all requests. The main floor living area is spacious with spectacular ocean views. The kitchen is well appointed with new appliances and almost every gadget and tool you could possibly imagine. The pool area is well maintained with plenty of lounges and pool accessories. Used the gas BBQ on a number of occasions. Cooking with an ocean view! So nice to have laundry facilities which are clean and neat. Wifi worked great as well. Used the main A/C unit once (for 20 minutes) in our 15 days because their is nice cross ventilation throughout the house. Weekly yard and pool service the grounds in impeccable order. Housekeeping service during our stay was a nice touch. Plenty of shopping within a 5 minute drive. Living Market is a great source for specialty purchases and Big Save let's you finish all grocery purchases. Long's Drug is a great resource. Try La Spezia in Koloa for great Italian cuisine. Merrimans and Roys 1849 let you splurge for a romantic evening. We've already booked for 2018 - 3 weeks this time because this feels like 'home' to us.

What a terrific vacation and what a beautiful location! The upstairs main room felt much bigger in person than the pictures reflect ( and it looks big in the pics) which was nice. All of the rooms were clean and well maintained upon our arrival. All beds were made with good linen and we had plenty of towels for the pool plus pool floats, noodles and boogie boards. We had no problems with anything either inside or outside the house. We made good use of the kitchen which was fully equipped for the 7 of us. The nearby beach really is just a few minutes walk away and so is Spouting Horn though you don't even need to walk there because you can see it from the pool. I strongly recommend a stop at Living Foods Market located in the shopping center by Long's. Their food was amazing. My friends and I ate there several times. Gale was attentive and responsive but not overly so in any way. I would not just recommend renting this home but would recommend renting any property from Gale. She was delightful. I certainly intend to book this home again and would not be surprised to be competing with my accompanying friends for future vacation dates.

First, I would like to compliment Gale on being such an attentive host. She was in contact with us before, during and after our trip, making sure we had what we needed. It certainly instilled a confidence in our choice in properties. Our trip was to celebrate a significant birthday and two anniversaries. What a perfect choice! You cannot truly appreciate how close to the ocean, beach and beauty of the area this home is until you are there. Gale has made sure her property is well maintained and clean. 3 couples each had their own bedroom and bath, as well as a perfect work spot in the downstairs family area just off the poolside. Just minutes away are so many wonderful local retail shops and 2 great farmer's markets on Monday and Wednesday, that we found little need for a trip into Lihue. Most days were spent venturing out, but we looked forward to coming back to this restful, comfortable home. While we were in the neighborhood of some of the best island restaurants, we enjoyed cooking most evenings or having light fare at "home" after finding a great lunch spot. Would we recommend Hale Hokuu Too? You bet we would! We have it as a HomeAway favorite and have already shared our find with many of our friends. While no place is perfect, you can't get much closer than Gale's beautiful paradise home. We are already talking about next time!

I've been to Kauai many times, and have driven by all those wonderful,oceanfront homes hundreds of times, and for some reason I never looked into renting one of them. I continued to spend over $500/night for small, uncomfortable rooms at hotel resorts. This last time, after stumbling across VRBO, I discovered Hale Hokuu Too. Lucky me! The location was perfect. It is on Kukuiula Bay. Although I think I've gone to every beach on Kauai at least five times, I had never been to this bay before. Boy was I surprised. We pretty much had the beach (and bay) to ourselves everyday. Our 3-year old toddler loved the sandy beach and snorkeling with all the fish. And after spending several hours at the large, sandy beach on the bay, we walked a few minutes back to Hale Hokuu Too and spent hours swimming in the pool. After spending our days at the beach and the pool, we barbecued fresh fish on the propane BBQ while watching the sunset over the Spouting Horn. This home and its location were so wonderful that we didn't even use our rental car and drive anywhere during the first week we were there. Poipu (Koloa) is so walker/jogger friendly that my wife and I (with stroller in tow) walked 5 to 10 miles each day (while we tried not to gain any weight from all of the gourmet meals we prepared on the BBQ and newly updated kitchen). The home has lots of windows and sliding doors that we opened to let the island breezes flow through. During our time there, we never used any of the airconditioners that are in each bedroom. The house was always comfortable. I wish I knew how to attach pictures to this review. While Gale was amazing and extremely responsive, the pictures she has on the website do not do justice for the extreme joy we experienced during our two weeks in her home. I've vacationed in Hawaii 30 or 40 times, and none of my previous Hawaii vacations compare to staying in this home, walking next door to the "private" beach, swimming in the pool, lounging on the ocean front chairs while watching the sunset and then barbecuing dinner by the pool/ocean. While you can spend more money for other oceanfront homes that have been recently remodeled, dollar-for-dollar (and location wise, regardless of the nightly rate), you can't go wrong with Hale Hokuu Too. Stop shopping and contact Gale to book this property (unless you want to spend more money for an inferior property).

Hale Hokuu was a wonderful vacation location! The views from every room are breathtaking! We enjoyed the sunrises over the small bay/marina and the sunsets over Spouting Horn. The kitchen was well equipped and didn't lack for any needed utensils. The large dining area was a regular spot to sit and enjoy our morning coffee while watching the dive boats gear up for their trips. We saw whales from the patio and enjoyed watching Spouting Horn from the pool. My elderly mother enjoyed the fact that the master bedroom was on the same level as the kitchen and dining room so she only had to go down stairs if she wanted to go out by the pool. The home was comfortable, well equipped and clean when we arrived. All the beds were comfortable and if you so desired there was satellite TV and internet access. Our only mistake was not staying here for our entire two week vacation. Instead we went to the Big Island and rented a newer, larger and very uncomfortable home in Kona. We missed Gale's comfortable home away from home! I also left behind some items and the cleaning person found them, contacted Gale and I paid to have them sent by Fed Ex. I greatly appreciated her honesty! We would return to Hale Hokuu in a heart beat!

vrbo Our family just completed our third visit (for a total of 7 weeks) to Hale Hokuu and already have reserved for next year. We vacationed with our two adult children. Gale's house is the perfect place to share and appreciate time with our family. Well equipped from the kitchen to the beach equipment/toys. The house is in the most beautiful location with views(from every room) of Spouting Horn, sunrises, sunsets (you get both here), whales, dolphins, and turtles...you get the picture. The view is transcending. Quiet (except for an occasional rooster). Nice (new) outdoor furniture. The pool is lovely and was used daily. You are near so many points of interest (the gardens and Spouting Horn a short walk away) and very near a great shopping/gathering/restaurant location, The Shops of Kukui'ula. Gale is wonderful. She makes sure that all is going well for your vacation in paradise. She is very responsive, addressing any problem in the house. She also hires people that do a fantastic job. I cannot think of anyplace that I would rather stay.

Hale Hokuu Too is perfectly located right on the ocean on Kauai's south shore. While there's no beach directly in front of the home (the coast is lava rocks) there's a nice swimming beach minutes away by foot and a very nice swimming pool. Lounging in the pool while gazing off at the beautiful ocean and coastline is a highlight. The stars at night are spectacular. The home is spacious, clean and well stocked. The famous Spouting Horn is about a three minute walk from the house and there are plenty of shops and restaurants a short drive away. It\'s a great location. There were 8 adults in our group and we all had plenty of space and privacy -- and plenty of common area to be together. The only drawback was the lack of AC in the kitchen and living area. Hawaii was in the middle of an unprecedented heat/humidity wave (without the typical trade winds) and it was pretty uncomfortable except in the air conditioned bedrooms. The lack of AC is probably not an issue 90% of the time -- just check the weather outlook for your planned vacation time. All in all we enjoyed Hale Hokuu very much and would definitely return.

The location of this home is absolutely perfect! Our family of six adults and one child had such a wonderful time in Kauai and a lot of it was due to Hale Hokuu Too! The home was very comfortable for the 7 of us and the view is breathtaking to wake to each morning. Aloha! What a great getaway! Our families (6 adults, 1 child) met for a vacation in Kauai in honor of our parents 50th wedding anniversary. The house is located on the island\'s south shore in the town of Po`ipū. This was a great location for us as there were close beaches, restaurants and markets. We did day trips to the west and north shores and also visited Allerton Gardens (Wonderful tour! Take bug spray to the gardens.). We saw seals and turtles, had fun snorkeling, giggled at chickens and relaxed on amazing beaches. The house was great! The tall ceilings and picture windows overlooking the ocean present a magnificent view! If you look to the right from the main lanai you can see Spouting Horn. If you look to the left there is a small beach (several minutes walking distance). The lanai was the perfect spot on early mornings--and sunsets were spectacular. The house was very comfortable for our families, and the main floor open gathering area that opens to the kitchen was a great place to relax! The pool was the perfect late afternoon spot after a day of sightseeing. The bedroom on the main floor has it's own porch, and the lower bedrooms open up to the pool area. When researching to book this home on vrbo, we read reviews and looked at many options. Gale was quick to respond and helped us coordinate the best dates. Once we had set up the booking, Gale sent us information on keys and access. This has been a good experience for us, and I would recommend it to others. Mahalo!

We have just returned from a fabulous 12 day trip to Kauai and we are so glad we stayed at Hale Hokuu TOO (2 adults, 2 teenagers). The house is beautiful, spacious and very comfortable and relaxing. Check out the art work - most of it was painted by Gale and is perfect for the house. The kitchen is very well equipped and there is also an outdoor grill by the pool. We kept meaning to grill supper but never quite got around to it - we went onto island time very quickly and ate out most evenings! There are plenty of places to eat in Poipu and also in Holoa, which is a very nice town with great ice cream at Lamperts and is also very good for gifts. The view from the house is absolutely amazing. I loved having coffee on the lanai in the morning, watching the turtles and boats and I loved having a glass of wine sitting on the lanai in the evening watching the sun go down. Another reviewer mentioned that the pool was not heated - perhaps it wasn't, but I swam most mornings before breakfast and nearly every afternoon which was really nice (I hate cold water and would not have gone in if it wasn't warm enough). We didn't need to use the AC and made use of nature by opening the doors and windows - there is a nice breeze that you can take advantage of. The gardens are beautiful and we met Wilson, the gardener, who was very pleasant (Gale had informed us he was coming and it wasn't an issue for us - the teens slept through him working!) Gale was extremely helpful contacting us on our arrival and advised us on the best place to buy groceries - the nearest grocery store is fairly expensive. Yes, there are a few reminders around the house about how to use things etc, but that's what keeps the house nice and in good working order. We visited Waimea Canyon, the North Shore, Spouting Horn (the little craft market there is good) and took several excursions out of Lihue area (a helicopter trip, tubing the Sugar Cane canals and an amazing canoe/hike/swim by a waterfall trip where e

My wife and I decided to spend our 25th Anniversary in Hawaii (along with 3 adult kids). After a week long cruise to all the islands and being on the go, a much needed relaxing place was needed. Hale Hokuu Too was just this place. Gale was a pleasure to work with and very helpful upon us arriving with a phone call regarding local information. The views in the pictures don't do it justice. We enjoyed the pool, Spouting Horn views from the lanai, and watching the turtles each day. The landscaping was amazing with beautiful plants and flowers all around the property. We spent many days at Poipu Beach snorkeling and boogie boarding. Gale also provides a closet full of beach gear (chairs, mats, boogie boards, noodles) just a few that we made use of. The kitchen was laid out nice with plenty of room for our group of 5. We made almost all of our meals there although there were plenty of restaurants around the area. GREAT place to rest and relax! We're hoping to come back soon!
