All of our Kauai beaches are spectacular but one stands out for its remote location and miles of pristine sand. Polihale beach features the rugged beauty of our Na Pali coast and stunning ocean views that will stay with you for a lifetime. The world will soon know about this treasure that has been recognized as the Best Secluded Beach on Earth by Travel and Leisure Magazine (January 2013).
Once you arrive at Polihale you’re out of touch with the rest of the world. It feels like being on your own island. With seven miles of white sand to explore the beach is never crowded. You can walk as far as you can see, feel the wind on your face and hear the roar of the ocean. It’s a fantastic feeling that will be a highlight of your Kauai vacation.
Sunsets here are spectacular too and you’ll be able to see Niihau island in the distance. The sand dunes can stretch up to 100 feet in the air. Plan a day trip, come with food from your Kauai vacation rental, or stop in Waimea for last minute items. It might be good to check your gas tank too.
This Kauai adventure starts where the highway ends on the island’s west shore. Your last five miles on a sugar cane road will bounce you around like the best amusement park ride. If you have a video camera you may want to film this part of the drive to watch later.

Driving Directions – Getting Here is Half the Fun
When the dirt road starts at the end of the highway you’ll want to slow down. You’re in no rush to be anywhere. My fastest time has been 20 minutes and a half hour is average. As long as the road is dry you’ll be fine in your rental car. Just stay off the sand unless you have 4WD.
After four miles you’ll see a fork in the road at the monkey pod tree. Go left to reach Queens Pond where your only chance to swim will be. If you stay to the right and drive to the end you’ll find parking near the restrooms and showers.
Favorite Polihale Beach Tips
1. Bring sandals for long walks on the beach and to protect your feet from hot sand.
2. Phone calls should be made before leaving the highway – there is no cell phone service.
3. Fill your tank with gas in Waimea. Carry food from your Kauai vacation rental and pack sunscreen.
4. Use caution if you go in the water – we only recommend Queens Pond for swimming when calm. There is no lifeguard.
5. Visit Hawaii Parks for announcements and Kauai Explorer to see ocean conditions.
Restrooms, showers, picnic tables, picnic pavilions and drinking water.
