Only ten minutes west of our Poipu vacation rentals is the quaint upcountry town of Kalaheo. There you’ll find fabulous food and home cooking at the Kalaheo Cafe and Coffee Company. This neighborhood gem uses local ingredients whenever possible and their coffee is estate roasted here on Kauai.
I recommend going early for fresh pastries that sell out daily. Your Kauai vacation is not complete without trying their cinnamon knuckles, macadamia nut sticky buns or the ever popular coconut custard cake. With all of the Kauai activities we’ll help you plan, you can work off the extra calories on your trip.
My breakfast favorites include a build your own omelet, sweet bread French toast, and my personal choice – the ‘bagel benny’ with fresh veggies, turkey or ham in addition to a wide selection of specialty coffees.
Kalaheo Cafe Vibe: Casual and relaxed. Take a menu when you enter or look for the daily specials on the board. After placing your order at the counter, find a table and wait for your meal to be delivered. I usually stay inside as the outdoor patio gets noise from the highway. While you’re waiting, expect to bump into locals. Kalaheo Cafe is a popular place to meet friends.
Save Money With Their Early Bird Dinner Special
Dinners are back again every night except Sunday and Monday. If you order between 5 and 6pm on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, you’ll save 10% on your dinner check. Specials broke da mouth as described in local pidgin English. There is something for everyone.
Thumbs up to Kalaheo Café for supporting local farmers and the environment.
Plastics are recycled, cans and glass are donated to local charities, and coffee grinds are used as compost by farmers. A few years ago they started using biodegradable take-out containers too.
If you’ve been to Kalaheo Cafe, be sure to comment on your experience and favorite meal.
