We celebrate Earth Day throughout the year at Parrish Kauai with our commitment to the environment. This responsibility to the earth is even more magnified living on a small island. Our support extends not only to how we operate our business and maintain our Kauai vacation rentals, but also to how we live our lives. We continue to enhance our sustainable business practices by making changes for the better and improving services. This year that includes our membership in Hawaii Eco Tourism.
Green Kauai vacation rental initiatives from Parrish Kauai:
- Use refillable containers of our luxury bath amenities.
- Recycle paper, newspaper, cardboard and glass, cans and plastic in all offices.
- Use a water delivery service versus small plastic water bottles in all offices.
- Buy locally as much as possible versus shipping items from the mainland.
- Maintain paper, glass and can recycling in all of our Kauai vacation homes.
- Use environmentally friendly cleaning products when and wherever possible.
- Use recycled paper products for office stationery, business forms, etc.
- Convert as many lights as possible to Compact Fluorescent Light bulbs.
By continually looking for ways to expand this list, we hope to build a healthy balance between our business goals, environmental responsibilities, resource efficiencies and the well being of our island home.
We take our responsibility seriously to reduce the impact on the environment and protect our remarkable surroundings: tropical green mountains, spectacular Kauai beaches, blue Pacific waters and clean crisp air. It is simply the right thing to do.

Aloha! We just returned from a lovely ten days on Kauai, in your Nihi Kai Villas. I appreciate all the green policies you have in place for your units and I’m impressed with the amount of recycling the island is doing. However, I am stunned at the amount of plastic bags used at the grocery stores and other retailers. With all the information around about plastic bags harming aquatic life, and especially sea turtles, I am floored that Kauai, and Hawaii as a state, hasn’t banned plastic bags as other places are starting to do. I politely encourage you to start a movement, make some noise about it, and implore your local and state politicians to involve themselves with a plastic ban to protect the paradise that is Kauai. If you already are doing so, kudos to you! We will definitely be returning to Kauai and look forward to staying in your vacation homes again.
Mahalo!
Sincerely,
Rebecca V. & Extended Family
Aloha Rebecca,
Thanks for your post and I am glad you enjoyed Nihi Kai…an island favorite. We strive to do our part and minimize our impact on the island and appreciate when guests recognize the effort and help support us.
Kauai is behind the times when it comes to recycling etc. and we are working to help change that. Here is the latest on the plastic bag issue: Mayor supports plastic bag ban. Let’s hope change comes soon!!
We look forward to welcoming you back and do not forget about your repeat guest discount!!
See you on island again soon!
