A soft gaze along the oceans horizon will bring to light one the greatest aerial shows Hawaii has to offer. Approximately 4,500 Humpback Whales visit the Hawaiian Islands to bask in the warm waters, breed and give birth before migrating back to their Alaskan feeding grounds.
First sightings are generally in November and peak in February and March. It is speculated that the great humpback utilize ocean currents, temperature changes, acoustic cues and the earth’s magnetic field to find their way back to the worlds most remote island chain. The duration of their stay is an average of 6 to 8 weeks, with some extending their Hawaii “vacation” to late May or early June. The humpbacks then return to the icy, food-rich waters of Alaska to feed and replenish in preparation for their next Hawaiian holiday.

The 2009 Movies in the Park series will conclude on September 25, 2009 with the screening of the updated version of the Jules Verne’s classic sci-fi/fantasy Journey to the Center of the Earth in 3D. Released in 2008, the movie follows its hero, scientist Trevor Anderson (Brendan Fraser), on his search for his missing brother.
Following his missing brother’s notes on a Jules Verne’s novel, Anderson and his nephew travel to Iceland and enlist a fellow scientist’s daughter as a guide. Soon after, the trio’s Icelandic mountain trek descends into the center of the earth where dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures still dwell. After several dangerous encounters, the three must find a way back to the surface or face being stranded miles below the earth’s crust. [click to continue…]

On Saturday, August 15, 2009, several of The Parrish Collection Kauai staff participated in the 6th annual Kauai Habitat for Humanity Build-a-thon. Participants from all over Kauai worked alongside Habitat homeowners to build three new, affordable homes.
Our team worked at the Habitat base yard building trusses for a home in Kalaheo…ultimately helping to build 25 trusses!! The first building experience for several of the staff, they received training on how to hold a hammer and other building techniques. “I was also thrilled that my arms still worked the next day!” stated Anne, an Executive Assistant at Parrish Kauai.
