Has everything you will need.

Staying in a crater was really cool the only down side was the lack of breeze which made for a warm condo - up side bedrooms have AC. Condo is dated, but it is conveniently located and has everything you need for your stay in Kauia

The place has great location, is well stocked and is pretty clean. It was nice having breakfast on the patio with a beautiful garden view and singing birds around us. The only thing is that bugs and big ants everywhere. They go on the beds, on the walls and into our bags. We all ended up with a ton of bug bites. I messaged the host on the Airbnb app but he said he would have someone call us. We were out on the beach all day so I missed the phone call. I would rather they provide some sort of solution directly or just message me back. I wouldn’t recommend this place to someone else if the bugs problem is not solved.

We loved our stay in the crater. The condo was comfortable and clean. We enjoyed all our meals on the lanai. The grounds are beautiful with gorgeous flowers and banyan & banana trees. My son enjoyed the swimming pool a short walk from our unit. The location is prime. You can walk to Poipu Beach in under 10 minutes. Highly recommended.

Great stay

Communication with rental company was great. The Condo was well equipped with everything you’d need for a great vacation. Location was great, close to beaches and shopping/ dinning. The description of the condo was accurate. Having AC in the bedrooms was wonderful! The main areas of the house get very warm in the afternoon and evening, even with windows open and fans on. The pool and tennis courts are just a few steps away and were a nice activity option for those tired of the beach. Bring earplugs if you are a light sleeper. The roosters will wake you up early- just a part of the island charm!

This condo is very comfortable, with up to date kitchen and all the extras. Comfortable liv8ng room, plenty of seating. Dining tables inside and on the lanai. One bedroom has twin beds. Steep walk uphill to get out of the crater! About a 20 minute walk to the beach. Fabulous beach. Community Pool on the property is lovely.

We loved our stay with the Parrish collective! They were especially good at communicating and checking in at the start of our stay. The location was beautiful and the design of the space was more interesting and unique than many places we’ve stayed in Kauai-beautiful dark wood, fun cubby’s and closets and the crater is really cool too. They also did a great job stocking the house with all the things one might need. The two minor drawbacks of this space are that there are a lot of roosters (even for Kauai) close to the space, so our kid especially woke up early our first few nights. The other thing to be aware of is that the kids room and the adult room are on different floors, so depending on the age of your kids that could be a drawback-or a significant advantage. 🙂

Private Tropical Paradise

With a 5 - 10 minute walk down to the beach, the location is really what shines about this place. It's not the most updated and doesn't have its own view, but it\'s a great spot to use as a home base if you're going to be out exploring the island

We had a great time in Poipu Crater. We loved that #24 was at the end and very private. There is another rental located nearby outside the crater that we could hear pretty clearly.. The condo is clean and well-appointed. Bed was comfortable. Kitchen well- equipped, the small appliances in good condition. Overall a wonderful place to stay.

Place was great, pool was nice, 10 minute walk to the beach. Community was quiet and nice. The place is air conditioned, but only the bedrooms. Otherwise there are nice windows, good circulation, and a great outdoor porch with a table that is nice for relaxing. I would definitely stay again.

It is a nice condo, secluded toward the back of the complex. The kitchen is well stocked and there were games we enjoyed playing on the porch. Because it’s in the crater there is no airflow through the condo and no A/C in the main house only in the bedrooms so we didn’t sit anywhere except on the porch. It was fine though because the porch was great and we weren’t there much except to sleep and there was great AC in the bedrooms!

Stop looking and book this one now. Seriously! This was a perfectly clean and quiet corner unit with an amazing covered, private patio where you will be serenaded by thrush and other song birds while you enjoy meals outside. Just watch out for the sneaky sparrows; They will not hesitate to fly inside looking for stuff to steal if you leave the screen door open for 30 seconds. We only had one issue (plumbing) during the stay, which was ultimately handled by Parrish in a hasty manner. The unit had not been rented in a few months due to the pandemic, otherwise I’m confident this issue would never have occurred. Their emergency support was quite responsive, which is very much appreciated. The unit (#24) was much larger than we anticipated from the pictures and description on this site. The kitchen was stocked with everything except spices and cooking oil, as one would expect in the middle of a pandemic. The ice maker works very well. We used ice almost every day to keep our water and other beverages cool while hanging out in the sun. There were two large umbrellas, two large boogie boards, several foldable chairs, several pool noodles, beach towels and much more in the closets for use at the beach or pool. It was very nice to be able to use the two large umbrellas for the four of us at the beach, as it got hot very quickly even in April. The air conditioning is only in the bedrooms. For our April stay, the overhead ceiling fans in all the other rooms with all the doors and windows open kept it sufficiently cool for almost the entire stay. It only got a little uncomfortably warm when the humidity spiked during a longer rain storm on the last day. Both bedrooms are good sized and larger than expected. Some wonderful soul stocked them with enough hangars for an 8-day stay, which was a very pleasant surprise. The upstairs bedroom has a shower only, while the first floor bathroom has a tub. There were plenty of extra linens available in both rooms. Also stocked was a full-size ironing board, iron and hair dryers. The cable internet connection was easy to setup and quite fast, although it did disconnect unexpectedly a few times. It’s a must-have, as you’ll be lucky to get cell signal in this crater area. The smart TV in the living room is very new, which means you can sign in to Amazon Prime Video and Netflix using your own account during the stay. We also brought our Echo Dot with us, which was great to have for checking weather and drive times quickly while getting ready in the mornings. There are many activities very close to this unit. The furthest we drove for a paid activity was about 20 minutes, and the closest ones were 6 minutes away. The beach is a 10 minute walk at most, but we ended up driving and parking due to all the stuff we wanted to bring. Poipu beach is very close and has something for everyone. There is a nice shallow, protected section for the little ones to play, there’s two GREAT areas for snorkeling. In fact, we saw more there than the paid ocean snorkeling tour! There’s also large area for surfing and boogie boarding. Sea turtles and seals visit the beach daily, now that tourists are back at the beach. (They stopped coming when the people stopped coming to the beach, according to the essential lifeguard workers there.) Lifeguards are present for most of the day as well, keeping an eye on you so you don’t stray out of the bay where the rip tide can be deadly. Water shoes are a must, as there is coral, lava rocks and sea urchins in every hole. Restaurants are somewhat close, but honestly they were completely packed and Hawaii expensive. We ended up shopping for groceries at Walmart (ugh) in Lihue and a couple of places in Poipu (more expensive, but vastly better selections.) There are also plenty of roadside stands selling locally grown fruits and vegetables at a fair price. All said and done, we spent around $600 total for 8 days of food for 4 people, and that includes eating at Puka Dog a couple of times and Craving Thai (INCREDIBLE FOOD!) one time. We actually over-bought and had to leave the unopened stuff in the fridge. The roads on Kauai are quite small and have slower speed limits. We traded in the large Tahoe for a convertible the first day, then swapped it back at the end of the stay so we could get all our luggage back to the airport. (Thanks Avis!) The convertible was fun, but not practical for 4 people. The parking for unit #24 is very close, but there are a few stairs to go up and down with your luggage. (It is a two-story unit, so if stairs are an issue for you, keep looking.) Overall we had an incredible visit and would stay here again without hesitation!

A Great Place to Stay!

The layout of the suite was perfect and the size of the covered lanai was great for sitting outside even when it was raining. Uphill walking to and from Poipu beach but it’s reasonably close. Amenities, shops and restaurants a convenient short drive away. There were ants in the kitchen, a couple dirty dishes and we found sand in one of the beds. Nothing too concerning. Otherwise the suite was very clean. The pool was lovely and relaxing. September was a great time to go as it was very quiet. Our party of four felt like we were there all by ourselves. It was lovely. We would absolutely return.

Adequate for the price

I knew it was in a “crater”, but didn’t expect it to be up against the wall of the crater and therefore very dark (unlike the photos). We were not on the lanai much because of the bugs and mosquitoes. We lit coils, but who wants to smell anti-bug smoke. The management was very timely in replacing a non-working coffee maker. It’s been updated somewhat, but still windows and doors are very dated. Separating wall with adjoining duplex was not very soundproof. Furnishings were comfy, and kitchen worked as did the fans to keep it cool. Pool and outdoor grills were nice and down a nice path from the rental. Parking is up some stairs.

Great staff

For us, it was all about the outdoor table. The rest of the house is nice too, but we pretty much ate our breakfasts and lunches there, watching the birds come by and woo us with songs. I also appreciate the snorkel set as well as the boogie board. Overall, the house is nicely laid out, with high ceilings and lots of windows. But one drawback is that the master bedroom is not fully isolated from the living room. Meaning, even if the door is closed, the sound travels between the two rooms freely. The staff of Parrish Collection, the company that manages the property, is excellent. When we were leaving, we forgot a bag with gifts in the dining room. Someone at Parrish Collection contacted us and then even mailed it out to us. Nice people!

Lovely Condo, Great Location

Absolutely wonderful accommodations. Ample space, all amenities needed. Exquisite landscape

This house sits in a botanical crater. The flowers, fruit trees, exotic birds that visit the lanai and spacious outdoor dinning is stellar. In addition there is a tennis court, club house and barbecue. The house is complete with beautiful high vaulted ceilings. Page fans that keep it cool and well ventilated. The kitchen is super efficient. There is every appliance, cooking utensils and even two sets of China to use. Nothing was excluded. There is a tremendous amount of thought that was put into every detail in keeping this home well stocked for whatever a family or couple might need. The actual location is another plus close to the beach and endless stores and all of the beauty Poipu has to offer. We had a truly restful time. Mahalo

Poipu crater #24

Poipu crater is the ideal vacation spot. Private, secluded, quiet, updated unit with all of the modern conveniences. Have enjoyed my last three vacations here and just reserved my stay for this the forth year. Pool is really fantastic. No greater place on the south side of Kauai than this. Can’t wait for my stay in July 2016. Garden views are fantastic. Three block walk to Poipu beach. Enjoy!

Poipu crater #24

Just made my reservation for my third stay at TheCrater. I like to travel alone and stay in private places and this is it. Clean , Well maintained condo on lush gardens with a great pool. There are only 15 duplexes in the resort, most occupied by private residents. If you want to skip the mega-resorts I highly recomend this nice secluded place.

Incredibly wonderful

Our trip to Kauai was planned for sometime with my 24 year old daughter and my 12 year old daughter in mind. I wanted a place away from any traffic so we could just enjoy each other. It was beautiful and secluded. We had so much fun and the pool was almost always just us.

We thought it was paradise island! Loved it so much!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Poipu Crater #24. It was very comfortable and had everything we wanted. It was clean and the surrounding crater was beautiful. We especially loved waking to the song of all the wonderful birds each morning. It was so relaxing and enjoyable and a retreat after being at the beaches and driving around. We would love to come back again in the future.

A hidden gem

We have stayed at Poipu Crater and in this specific unit many times. Poipu Crater is a no frills kind of place and thats what we like. Don’t expect air conditioning, pool service, stuff to rent and daily cleaning. Do expect comfortable condos, nice people at the pool and to be within walking distance to the beach (about 1/4 mile over the hill). And you can’t beat the price! Great for families--we did a family reunion here several years ago and rented several units. People went and did their own thing around the island during the day and returned to the Crater for poolside grilling in the evening. Ps: If this isn’t the kind of place you are looking for, rent something else from Parrish. They are absoulutly wonderful to work with!

Been Staying at Poipu Crater for 20 years!

We always have found Poipu Crater to be one of the best places for our family to stay on Kauai. We’ve been coming here for 20 years now and even though we’ve shopped around have not found anything to equal it’s value, convenience, Hawaiian charm and quiet. The Parrish Collection is easy to work with. the few times we’ve had a problem they’ve been right there to fix it. And we appreciate the discount for returning guests!

Awesome and secluded spot

Raves: perfect for families! This condo was a great deal bigger than my 2-bdrm Bay Area apartment and a great bargain to boot! In May, the off-season, the weather was perfect (only one really hot day) so we didn’t miss the A/C at all. We loved being able to save money on food by using the big, well-appointed kitchen. The grounds were beautiful, well-kept, and quiet. The location was great--midway between canyon hiking in the west and nightlife in the east. Great beaches for kids are a short drive away. Wi-fi in the clubhouse only meant I wasn’t tied to my laptop and enforced relaxation time. ???? Nice to have barbecue available for guest use, too. Washer/dryer in unit was greatly appreciated! Could be better: Technically, the beach is a “10-minute walk,” but with all the gear you have to bring, and especially if you’re toting a kid, it’s easier to drive. Beach parking was not a problem. Also, a very minor quibble--neither of the built-in hair dryers in the bathrooms worked. The pool was definitely on the small side, but our daughter preferred the beach anyway. Some construction started with backhoes, etc. two buildings away from ours near the end of our stay--it would have been nice to get notice that this was going to happen.
