Fireworks in Hawaii have become a tradition to ring in a prosperous New Year with a loud bang heard across the Pacific. Here is our updated guide for New Year’s Eve 2019.
Portions of Poipu Beach Park, specifically Keiki Lagoon, will be closed all day. This is the area where the fireworks will be launched since the tombolo cannot be accessed.
5:00pm – Food Trucks Open at Poipu Beach.
You’ll find places to eat around the main county pavilion at Poipu Beach Park. Look for The Fresh Shave, Kickshaw’s, Rafael’s Aloha Taco’s, Ono Pops, Kauai Poke Company, Chipwrecked and more!
6:30pm – Free Outdoor Movie.
After sunset, a feature movie begins for the entire family to enjoy on large outdoor screen. This year’s movie is Abominable.
8:15pm (Sharp!) – Hawaii Fireworks Hosted by Southwest Airlines and the Poipu Beach Heritage Foundation.
After a magical Kauai sunset the crowds will gather for the annual fireworks show. This popular Kauai family event is not to be missed as the evening sky explodes in colors over the Pacific.

Parking Advisory.
Our best advice for those driving is to arrive early and park on the grassy area next to the main Poipu Beach parking lot on Hoowili Road. If that area is full, you may find parking on any of the residential side streets heading towards Nihi Kai Villas.

If you decide to buy fireworks to have your own show, please protect our island and ocean by removing any firework debris when you’re through. Fireworks are popular in local neighborhoods too and the sky at midnight can be a mixture of noise, smoke and color seen around the island.

Hi JJ – That’s a good question and we have some suggestions. There will be additional parking on the grassy area next to the main Poipu Beach parking lot on Hoowili Road. If that doesn’t work, consider driving down towards Nihi Kai Villas and park on any of the side streets. Our best advice is to arrive early. Have a great time on Kauai!
