The Parrish Collection Kauai is proud to sponsor the 2009 Paddle Fest event hosted by the Kukuiula Outrigger Canoe Club and YMCA Kaua’i Hoe Wa’a. Part of the 2009 Koloa Plantation Days celebration, this event will be held in Poipu Resort on Sunday, July 19, 2009 and honors the history of outrigger canoes and other paddling sports on the South Shore and Kauai. Anyone can join in!!
From 10:00 am to 3:00 pm, members of the Kukui’ula Outrigger Canoe Club and other expert watermen will be at Poipu Beach Park’s main pavilion to answer questions and demonstrate the art of outrigger canoe paddling and paddle boarding.
The event is free for the public. Between 11:30 am and noon, you can witness the exciting finish of a 12-mile expert paddler race. For those interested in competing, please visit www.kukuiulaoutrigger.com for more information, including race entry registration forms, etc.
Long course: OC-1 (one-man canoe), OC-2 (two-man canoe), OC-6 (six-person crew) and expert paddle board races start at Kalapaki Beach at 10:00am and arrive in Poipu at approximately at 11:30am.
Short course: Standup Paddle Board and Paddle Board races start at 11:00am from Poipu Beach Park and end at Kukuiula Harbor.
From 12:30 pm to 1:00 pm an awards ceremony and lunch will be served to all participants back at Poipu Beach. There will be food and drinks provided by Brennecke’s Beach Broiler, Keoki’s Paradise Grill & Bar, Casa Blanca at Kiahuna, Kalaheo Café & Coffee Co., Steinlager and Kauai Springs Water.
