Kukui’ula Bay Small Boat Harbor - A Gateway for Kauai’s Watermen

by admin on June 30, 2009

Kukui'ula Small Boat HarborA quaint small boat harbor used by local fisherman, dive boats and sportsmen. A small number of boats are moored there permanently and a few launch daily. The Kukui’ula Outrigger Canoe Club calls this bay home and many OC-1 paddlers and kayakers often launch there as well. There are several ocean front pavilions that can serve as a perfect setting for a family get-together and/or picnic BBQ.

Long-pole shore fishermen and throw-net fishermen frequent this spot as well. It always seems like something interesting is going on. A great place to hang out and watch locals and tourists alike and the small beach is good for kids. This is also a perfect place to park your beach chair and watch sunsets. Outside the breakwater is a pretty good surf spot for experts.

Perfect for…swimming, sun bathing and sunsets, outrigger paddling, picnics and BBQs.

Kukuiula BayHazards…no lifeguard on duty. Larger surf can break at the breakwater, so only experts should go beyond it.
Driving directions to Kukuiula Small Boat Harbor… from Koloa town, head south on Poipu Road. Continue along on Poipu Road (HI-520) until you merge into the “Welcome to Poipu Beach” round-about. Continue around the round-about and follow the sign “Spouting Horn” (second exit) and continue along Lawai Road for approximately two miles. Turn left at Amio Road and take it to the end. There is a small free parking lot. The beach will be on your right and the pavilions will be on your left. Parking also available along Lawai Road. Public facilities available.

Some of The Parrish Collections’ top Poipu vacation rentals are nearby. Hale Moana overlooks the bay and Sandy Beach House and Kauai Kai are a few short steps away.
