Wai Koa Loop Trail to Stone Dam.
There are many highlights on this 4.5 mile trail that include the historic Stone Dam at the top. Here you can enjoy a picnic or a swim. Built in the 1880’s to support the Kilauea Sugarcane Plantation, from the dam you have impressive views of the Namahana Mountains. There is no charge to hike on this private property but a trail wavier form is required. You can also rent a mountain bike to explore this beautiful area. Allow 2.5 to 4 hours. Water and food is available for purchase at the park. The Wai Koa Loop trail opens at 8am and closes at dusk.
Kauai Beaches Nearby.
Afterwards, drive across the highway and stop at two popular Kauai beaches. These include Secret Beach which is reached on a steep trail and the more easily accessible Kalihwai Beach where you can park near the sand.
Kauai Mini Golf is open daily from 8am to 8pm (last golfer at 7pm). Rates are $18.50 for 18 and over, $15.00 ages 11-17, $11 ages 5-10. Discounts offered to Seniors, Military Families and Kama’aina.
